DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY & BIOCHEMISTRY
The department of Anatomy has distinguished teachers and a distinctive museum with a multitude of specimen and models for study and ready reference. Most models housed in our museum are prepared in-campus; hence they are of high aesthetic quality and anatomically precise.
The department of Physiology boasts of a Human and Clinical Lab that has all modern gadgets. The department is also planning to establish a top quality pulmonary function test facility.
| The department of Biochemistry besides the teaching and training of undergraduate MBBS students, is also engaged in the academic and research activities of postgraduate students. The department is equipped with every possible modern amenity like fully automated Biochemistry Analyzer 'Erba' (XL 300, Transasia), Semi Auto Analyzer (RA-50), INSTAlyte and skilled technicians. The department is conducting research projects funded by DST and UP-CST. Several Ph.D. students are also working in the department as well as in collaboration |

DEPARTMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY
We have established department of Biotechnology having state of art facility for advanced Biomedical research. The department has central research facility and molecular diagnostic unit. We are providing molecular diagnosis for various geneticsand infectious diseases. The department has several Ph.D. students and collaboration with other research |

MOLECULAR DIAGNOSTIC UNIT
At ELMC&H we aim to harness technology for the benefit of the masses, hence from time to time we aquire the latest and the most advanced equipments which are rarely available at other places. Presently we are providing PCR based detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and in the near future plan to start PCR based detection for Malarial parasite, Urinary tract infection, Helicobacter pylori, Beta -Thalassemi and HLA-B27. |
| Malarial parasite - In routine malaria is diagnosed using microscopic examination of blood film in which the species of malaria cannot be differentiated. We aim to provide Nested PCR based detection of 4 species of malarial parasite (P. falciparum, P.vivax, P.ovale, P.malariae ) for which 1ml blood sample is required .
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) - The PCR based amplification of 16S rRNA and other conserved regions is one of the most reliable method for detection of both Gram positive and Gram negative pathogenic bacteria responsible for causing UTI like M. genitalium, Klebsiella spp, P. aeruginosa, U. urealyticum, Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhea etc. We are going to provide PCR based detection of UTI as soon as posible for which urine sample will be required. |
Helicobacter pylori - It is strongly associated with the development of duodenal ulcers, gastic ulcer and stomach cancer. PCR based detection of Helicobacter pylori is soon to be started in our Molicular Diagnistic Unit for which a biopsy sample will be required. |
Beta-Thalassemia - Concidering the large number of patients suffering from Beta-Thalassemia we are at the earliest planing to start ARMS-PCR based detection of Beta-Thalassemia (sample-blood) as well as Beta-Thalassemia PND (sample-Amniotic Fluid/CVS/blood of both parents). ARMS is a modofied PCR method that allows the detection of known point mutation in DNA..
| HLA-B27 - The Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA-B27) is strongly associated with a certain set |
